Our Mission
To provide caring and protective support for vulnerable children, encourage access to education and healthcare, and promote holistic development that helps them prepare for future independence.
Providing independent sanctuary, protection, and long-term empowerment since 2003.
The rescue framework of Villa Teag Children's Home was established in 2003 in response to the high rates of HIV/AIDS and crime-related adult mortality affecting families within the Dandora informal settlements. Founded by the late Member of Parliament, Hon. Mellitus Mugabe Were, alongside ten dedicated community members, the institution stepped forward as a line of protection for children left vulnerable, orphaned, or abandoned, offering them shelter and care.
Recognising that basic shelter alone was not enough to address generational hardship, the founding team developed a community framework that brought together care, education, and wellbeing, helping children build a more stable path toward future opportunities.
Villa Teag Children's Home provides care and protection in a safe, supportive environment. Daily care includes nutrition, clothing, healthcare, education, and individual encouragement. Each child's care plan reflects their circumstances and supports stability, growth, and future independence.
Family tracing and reintegration support safe family connections when this serves a child's best interests. Every plan follows an individual assessment, authorised decisions, and safeguards that protect the child from harm.
Children experiencing neglect, family hardship, or other forms of vulnerability deserve to be treated with dignity and to receive appropriate care and protection. Villa Teag's work is centred on helping children access support, regain stability, and develop in a safe environment.
Educational continuity is an important part of this work. Access to learning, encouragement, and practical life skills can help children build confidence and prepare for future opportunities.
The home cannot achieve its goals alone. Partnerships, donations, and community support can help sustain care and learning opportunities. We welcome enquiries from people and organisations who wish to understand the home's needs and explore appropriate ways to contribute.
Every child deserves a dignified future, supported by a community that acts with care and responsibility.
Villa Teag Children's Home is an independent community children's home in Dandora Phase V, Nairobi, Kenya. Lift the Children (LTC) is a charitable partner, separate from the home's ownership and operation. Contact the home before visiting so the team can arrange your visit.
